Ogwus Empowers Students, Sponsor Inter-House Sports Competition at Community Secondary School, Woji Port Harcourt
In a landmark event held on Thursday, 21st March 2025, the Ogwus Youth Empowerment and Community Development Organization brought a wave of transformation to Community Secondary School, Woji Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The program showcased the organization’s dedication to education, youth development, and community upliftment.
As part of the empowerment initiative, OYECDO donated essential school supplies, including notebooks, pens, and other writing materials, to students. The gesture aimed to bridge educational gaps, foster equal opportunities, and encourage academic excellence among the students.
Adding to the day’s excitement was the presentation of a trophy for the school’s inter-house sports competition. The competition, chaired by Hon. Chief Godspower Okekem, reflected OYECDO’s ongoing commitment to extracurricular development. The event also featured Mrs. Stella Onuah, Senior Director and Zonal Supervisor of the Obio/Akpor Zonal Board, as the guest of honor, alongside other distinguished dignitaries.
Mr. Tasie Harrison, the Principal of Community Secondary School Rumurolu, expressed his gratitude for the remarkable contributions made by OYECDO. He described the program and donation as “marvelous” and exceeding his expectations, stating, “Many appeals for such assistance had gone unanswered, but OYECDO delivered beyond our hopes in a short time. I thank them sincerely and pray for continued blessings upon them.”
Dr. Joseph U. Eyong, speaking on behalf of the president of OYECDO, addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of education. “Education is the pathway to success and a tool for shaping a brighter future,” he remarked, inspiring hope and determination among the audience.
Beyond education, OYECDO highlighted its broader impact across Rivers State, which includes solar electrification projects in communities such as Ahoada East and Ahoada West. The organization also supports elderly people through targeted programs, offers scholarships to deserving students, and develops local sporting talent. Notably, OYECDO facilitated trials for young footballers with Rivers United, showcasing its commitment to identifying and nurturing potential.
The day concluded with a call to action, inviting well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with OYECDO in its mission to build resilient communities and create lasting change.
